Animal Deterrent Tips

Posted September 27th, 2010

Per WV PSC rules and regulations, a motor carrier is not responsible to clean up strewn trash that was not created by its employees.

Having problems with cats, dogs, raccoons, possums, bears or any other nocturnal animals?

Try these tactics:

  • Place solid waste out for collection in the morning hours
  • Spray bags/cans with bleach
  • Use cans with lids, placing bags inside cans
  • Build an accessible encasement/cage for bags/cans
  • For commercial/industrial customers, bear proof container lids are effective, contact our office for arrangements.  Trout Pond and Lost River State Park bears had to find other sources of food.
  • Google “animal deterrents” and find one that works best for you

Other reasons solid waste may not be able to be collected:

  • Bees
  • Skunks
  • Rats
  • Snakes
